MITHI, Nov 3: A jirga, which was perhaps the first in Tharparkar and held in a remote village of Chhachhro taluka on Sunday night, ordered a man who had killed his son-in-law a week ago to pay Rs400,000 fine and give two girls in marriage to the sons of the deceased.
Reports reaching here said that Sher Khan Samejo, chieftain of Samejo community, convened the jirga in Arbiliar village to decide murder of Saleem Samejo at the hands of Sahli Samejo a week ago over a dispute over turn of water at a water tank.
The jirga found Sahli guilty and ordered him to pay Rs400,000 as fine and give two girls in marriage to the sons of the deceased Saleem.
Jirga, a private court held by tribal chiefs, is a common phenomenon in violence-infested upper Sindh but it is rarely held in lower parts of the province and is a new practice for Tharparkar.
KILLED: A man was killed in Khiyaro village of Chhachhro on Monday over a dispute spiralling out of cattle grazing in a field.
Reports reaching here said that Abbas Nohri, 27, was allegedly killed by Jan Mohammad Dars and others over a minor dispute. A case has been registered at Khainsar police station.
Meanwhile, a teenaged boy was killed when he fell down from a moving donkey-cart He sustained serious head injuries and was rushed to Civil Hospital where he died.
PARK: Residents of Mithi town draw attention of the taluka municipal administration to a public park, which has fallen to decay due to lack of care.
They said that the municipal administration had established the park adjacent to its office a couple of years ago. The park remained grassy for quite sometime when it was properly watered and provided a pleasant place to the youth and children to relax in it in the evening and morning hours.
