KARACHI, Nov 2: Prominent owner Pir Pagara and jockey Mohammad Essa stole the limelight with a treble in a card of seven races in the Gymkhana race meeting at the Karachi Racecourse on Sunday.
The worthy winners who had done the duo proud were stable mates Dilruba, Sugar Sweet and Taiz Per. Incidentally, all the three won their races by two-and-a-half lengths.
With an exception, almost all favourites obliged punters in the races held in fair manner.
Making amends, three-year-old bay filly Dilruba saddled by Sher Mohammad gave the owner an impressive start when she landed the opener overcoming mare Blind Date. Colt Reyan The Great finished six lengths behind to grab third place while filly Leopard Of Arab completed the frame.
Another favourite filly Sugar Sweet lived up to her reputation following repeat performance to make it two on the trot. Her closest rival was Lucky Gem who too beat Mushki by two-and-a-half lengths while NYX seized fourth slot.
After registering facile nine lengths win on Oct 12, four-year-old filly Taiz Per ruled the field again imposing fluent victory over mare Stormy Kiss to complete the rout.
Taking advantage of seven pounds allowance, four-year-old filly Moon Dazzler pulled off a mild upset overcoming filly Novaho’s Glory by two lengths.
However, the Racing Committee was quick to impose a fine of Rs10,000 on the rider of Moon Dazzler, M. Umar, for ‘unsatisfactory riding’. Rider of Novaho’s Glory, Ghulam Shabbir II had also lodged an objection which was overruled.
Four-year-old bay colt Al Tahura jointly owned by Kamal Farooq and Tanvir Abbasi chalked up his maiden win of the year edging unknown pedigree mare Rangilee by three lengths. He was ridden home by Tariq Baran.
In the same race Essa was fined Rs10,000 for ‘unsatisfactory riding’ of Silent Love.
Bay New Ferrari and filly Moon Baby returned with flying colours in their respective races.
