LAHORE, Nov 1: Two three-year-old colts, Punjabi and Velocity, look set for a duel to bag the Wazirabad Cup, featuring a six-event card drawn for the 9th Lahore Winter Meeting at the Racecourse on Sunday.

Contesting in the fourth race, a class IV, division II handicap event to go over 1,300 meters, both Punjabi and Velocity have shown excellent performances to boast of their claim to win the day’s top honours.

Punjabi is very lowly placed in the handicap at seven stones, 21 pounds less than his rival Velocity, who has registered three victories.

Punjabi was beaten by the filly Dixie in his last outing by three-fourths of a length over six furlongs in a fast run race. On the other hand Velocity was beaten by a length from the colt Cut Throat, who really proved himself worthy of his name to win the over 1,200 metres event.

Both the colts are meeting for the first time to test their pedigree credentials.

Sher-e-Gujrat and Charismatic may fight for the frame. This will be the fourth race in the racing order.

The three-year-old filly Soviet Song, who had two facile victories in her bag, will be on the trot to make it a hat-trick of triumphs in the second race, the Gujjar Khan Plate class V division I and II combined to be contested over 1,200 metres.

The way she had been winning the earlier races, shows her class. She should have no difficulty to extend her tally to three straight wins.

The filly Eve and Iconic look good for places.

Raksh-e-Raqeeban, High Jet and Nishat Malook are the pick of the third race, the Gujjar Khan Plate class V division II-A, to be run over 1,200 metres.

All three are speedy animals and placed well on handicap in view of their performances. Incidentally, all three were beaten on their previous outings.

The main contest should be between Raksh-e-Raqeeban and Nishat Malook, with the second named having an edge.

The filly Philogyny looks good in the opener, Gujjar Khan Plate, Class V division II-B over 1,200 metres. The filly has a very good bloodline but has not proved her credentials yet.

The reason may be that she is a slow beginner, which shows she is bred for running over longer distances. Since the company she is facing is somewhat weak, she has a chance to cap a victory.

Lighting Muqeem, Royal Gesture and Brave Heart should fight for places.

Hermatic, Snow Fall and Princess Aman may fight for the spoils in the fifth race, a class VI division I race over 1,100 metres. Showing improvement in each races, Princess Aman may prevail over the others.

Amazing Boy looks good in the sixth and last race to have the better of his 10 rivals, who all belong to mediocrities. Kamla, Dream Act and Golden Falcon may fight for places.

Three races will be held over 1,200 metres, one 1,300 metres and two over 1,100 metres.

The first race will be held at 1.00pm.
