GUJRANWALA, Nov 1: Health officials on Saturday confirmed two more polio cases, one each in Gujranwal and Toba Tek Singh districts.

Gujranwal Health department officials had sent blood samples of baby Zunaira, daughter of Muhammad Asif of Sharifpura locality of Kamoki, to National Institute of Health, Islamabad, suspecting she was suffering from polio. The NIH report proved doctors’ fears true.

District Health Officer Dr Riasat Ali Nahara claimed the baby was not completely immunised against the crippling disease.

He said she was being provided treatment at the local DHQ hospital.

About a month ago, a minor boy was found to be suffering from polio at Ladheywala Warraich village.

The other polio case surfaced in Chak 346 JB (Muqbool Pur) of Toba district.

Health EDO Dr Masood Iqbal Bukhari confirmed on Saturday that after medical tests it had been confirmed that eight-month-old Draz Khan, son of Mumtaz, was suffering from polio. He said it was the first polio case detected in the district.

He said although the bay belonged to a village in the district, his mother had stayed in Jhang area for sometime after his birth where polio cases had already been detected.

He said the baby was being treated by specialist while his samples were again sent to NIH, Islamabad for reconfirmation of tests.
