Bakery sealed, owner held: Stale foodstuff

GUJRANWALA, Oct 30: Police on Thursday arrested a bakery owner and sealed his shop for providing stale food that had resulted in fainting of over 100 students and teachers of a girls college in Ladheywala Warraich on Tuesday.

Reports said students of the Community Model Girls College had arranged a function on college premises, but almost all students and teachers became unconscious after taking the bakery items.

DCO Dr Pervaiz Ahmad visited the DHQ Hospital and inquired after the students and teachers. He directed the health department to check all bakery items and get their laboratory test from Lahore.

On the report of college principal Ms Khalida Parveen, the Ladhewala police registered a case against bakery owner Shaikh Irfan and arrested him.

STUDENTS CLASH: Satellite Town police registered a case against 37 students of the Government College for Boys following an exchange of fire between two rival students’ organisations here on Thursday.

Reports said activists of Islami Jamiat Tulaba (IJT) and Muslim Students Federation (MSF) quarrelled with each other and later resorted to firing which continued for about half an hour.

Police registered the case against IJT city nazim Suleman Jabbar, college nazim Rashid Ghafoor, Rana Shafqat, Shahzad Cheema, Manzoor, Bilal and others besides MSF activists Sultan Mudassar Cheema, Zubair, Zahid, Waseem, Qaiser, Sultan Awan and others.

Police were conducting raids for their arrest. At least 13 accused of both groups were nominated in the case.

RECOVERED: A bailiff on Thursday recovered a man and his minor son illegally detained for the last three days at the Jandiala Baghwala police station and produced them before the district and sessions court.

The court summoned the police post in charge and investigation officer in his court on Friday (today).

Reports said Akram moved the court alleging that the police had picked up his minor nephew Muhammad Zaman and his father Aslam from their house and locked them without any justification.

KILLED: A labourer was killed while two others were injured when an under-construction building of a private hospital collapsed at Kamoki on Thursday. According to a report, a portion of the under-construction building of Hassan welfare and surgical hospital suddenly collapsed on labourers working there.

The area people pulled the labourers out from the debris and hastened them to the THQ Hospital where Haji Muhammad Ramzan died while the condition of Asif and Sabir was stated to be serious.

DEATH SENTENCE: A local court on Thursday handed down death sentence with a fine of Rs200,000 to a murder convict.He will have to undergo a six-month hard jail if he fails to pay the fine.

According to the prosecution, convict Imtiaz alias Hilako had killed Zahid Javed over an old enmity in Dhulle, Model Town, some four years ago.
