RAWALPINDI, Oct 30: An additional session judge here on Thursday awarded death sentence to a man for shooting dead a person five years ago in the limits of Chontra police, and dismissed the private complaint of the father of the deceased about the innocence of another accused.

Judge Abdul Rehman Awan handed down death sentence to Mohammad Sajjad for murdering Mohammad Tanveer on March 24, 2003, and also imposed Rs100,000 fine on him. If the convict failed to pay the fine, he would have to undergo six-month extra imprisonment.

The court dismissed the complaint of Tanveer’s father challenging the investigation of area police that acquitted the other accused, Mohammad Banaras, in the case. Banaras has died a natural death.

The convict, who was earlier declared a proclaimed offender, was arrested by the police two years ago.

Separately, Additional Session Judge Ghulam Mehdi Khan acquitted four men of murder, expressing doubt about the case of the prosecution.

Zahid Mehmood, Mohammad Ali Babar, Tariq Mehmood and Atif Javaid were booked by the R.A. Bazaar Police on November 1, 2005, for allegedly killing Jabar Javaid over the issue of car parking.

Meanwhile, Additional Session Judge Mustafa Tanveer Sifwat absolved Naseem Sajjad of the charges of murdering Attiqur Rehman on October 17, 2006, in the limits of the New Town police.

Naseem was accused of stabbing Attiq to death with the help of two other men after a brawl at their workplace.
