FAISALABAD, Oct 29: Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) president-elect Ali Ahmed Kurd has said that chief justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry will be restored soon as the legal fraternity had given a verdict against the government.
In his telephonic address to members of the district bar association, he said that independent judiciary was indispensable for any nation to flourish. He said all segments of society including industrialists and traders were protesting for their rights. Terming his election as SCBA president a referendum against the rulers, he said the lawyers had voted against the PCO judges. He paid tribute to Faisalabad lawyers for their taking a firm stance over the restoration of deposed judges.
Meanwhile, bar members celebrated the victory of Kurd’s panel by distributing sweets. Later, they rallied from the barroom to the Clock Tower intersection.
Advocate Mian Riffat Qadri said that Kurd’s triumph had revitalised the movement launched by the legal fraternity for the establishment of rule of law, supremacy of the Constitution and independence of the judiciary.

The University of Agriculture Faisalabad (UAF) in collaboration with the
Higher Education Commission organised the event “Genetic resources and molecular techniques for livestock,” at New Senate Hall here on Wednesday.
Agriculture faculty Dean Dr Iftikhar Ahmad, addressing the inaugural session, said combination of genetic engineering and biotechnology had opened new horizons in the modern era and these two technologies could also benefit the livestock sector of Pakistan.
He said unlike medical and engineering sectors, country’s agriculture had developed research infrastructure and it could be boosted further by employing both modern and traditional methods.
The New Castle University, Britain, scientist Dr Abdul Shakoor said genetic techniques could help Pakistan breed and save the quality cattle that would cater to country’s milk and meat needs.
Dr Younis said the UAF had experimental and analytical research facilities for livestock sector that could be useful for young scientists.

ATC President ATC Imtiaz Rabbani said gated bazaars would be safe from “rioters” who otherwise could enter the bazaars anytime and disturb the trading. A couple of days ago, some alleged rioters during a protest demonstration against unscheduled loadshedding had looted shops.
He said surveillance cameras installed at Clock Tower had the footage of riots and police could get the record to identify the rioters.
