RAWALPINDI, Oct 29: When it comes to land related issues, trust among family members sometimes fades away. An 80-year-old woman has lodged a complaint against her own son for fraudulently transferring her house in his name. The anti-corruption department has summoned the director and assistant director of the land development and estate management (LDEM) for explaining as to how the house transfer was made without the consent of the old woman.
Mumtaz Begum has accused her son Raja Arshad Zaman of fraudulently transferring the house in his own name in connivance with the officials of the LDEM of Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA). The director, Altaf Bhatti, has been transferred to his parent department after the scandal was reported to the director-general RDA, Makeen Shahbaz.
The anti-corruption department on Monday recorded the statement of the assistant director LDEM Masood Arshad; however, the director Altaf Bhatti did not appear before the department.
Later, it was learnt by both the RDA and the anti-corruption department that the daughter of the director is married to the elder son of Raja Arshad Zaman – the son of Mumtaz Begum.
In her written complaint to the Punjab government, the district nazim and the officials of RDA, Mumtaz Begum states, “Taking advantage of my illness, my son in connivance with the officials obtained my signatures on some documents.”
When contacted, assistant director LDEM Masood Arshad confirmed that he had appeared before the officials of the anti-corruption department and recorded his statement, adding the future investigation would be carried out by the anti-corruption department.—Inamullah Khattak
