LARKANA, Oct 26: A peasant killed his newborn baby boy in Sher Mohammed Mugheri village in the Gairilo area on Sunday after declaring that it was an illegitimate child.

Gairilo SHO Iqbal Ahmed Soomro said that the killer had attributed the murder to illicit relations of his wife with a man.

The child’s mother told police that her husband snatched the infant from her lap and killed it with the axe, after putting it on the floor, the SHO said.

Haji Mohammed Punhal Mugheri, uncle of the accused killer, said that his nephew suffered from mental illness.

Ramzan Mugheri, grandfather of the slain baby, has lodged an FIR against his son for allegedly killing the newly-born.

Police had arrested the killer and recovered the axe used in the crime. He had (the killer) regretted the murder of the innocent saying that he was not in the senses when he committed the crime.

Police began probe into this barbaric incident.
