Dispute over land claims three lives

SUKKUR, Oct 23: Three people including two real brothers were killed and seven others suffered injuries in a clash between two groups belonging to Chachar and Kalwar clans over a piece of land in the katcha area in Gudpur police station’s limits near Pano Akil on Thursday.

Reports reaching here said that a group of armed men believed to be Kalwar clansmen raided Chachar village and opened fire on the villagers. In the ensuing exchange of fire, which lasted for about two hours, Sanaullah Chachar, Ghulamullah Chachar and Siraj Chachar were killed and seven were injured who were moved to taluka hospital and CMH Pano Akil.

Tension gripped the area after the attack as the armed men of the warring groups took positions against each others in trenches and police set up a check-post to avert further bloodshed.

The bloody dispute between the two groups, which started six years ago over a piece of land, have so far claimed 12 lives on both sides and left many injured.

Meanwhile, armed dacoits gunned down a taxi driver and seriously injured two passengers on Jarwar link road in Mirpur Mathelo police station’s limits early on Thursday morning.

Reports reaching here said that the dacoits open fire on the taxi and killed Liaqat Kaleri when he ignored their signal to stop and tried to speed away.

Balocho Malik and Mohammad Saleem Arain who had hired the taxi in Khanpur Mahar suffered injuries.

Police moved the dead body and the injured to Mirpur Mathelo Civil Hospital but did not file any case.
