600 phones lying dead due to cable theft
SAHIWAL, Oct 21: The Pakistan Telecommunication Company’s local staff has failed to replace a primary cable stolen on Sunday which rendered as many as 600 phones useless.
The 10-metre long, 600-pair primary plastic cable worth Rs100,000 was stolen from a PTCL manhole in the vicinity of Farid Town exchange. The theft hit 600 commercial as well as domestic phone lines.
“Despite passage of three days, there is no replacement of the cable is in sight,” lamented Asif, an affected PTCL subscriber.
According to official sources, PTCL is suffering Rs0.35 million in revenue daily because of non-functioning of these 600 landlines.
“We have brought new cable and technical staff is busy fixing the cable,” said Farid Town SDO Saeedur Rahman. He claimed the work would be completed by Wednesday.
Police have registered a case.
MURDERED: A youth was murdered allegedly by his rivals over cotton picking in village No 50 of Noor Shah on Tuesday.
Reports said Khalid Husain was working in his cotton fields when Khadim Husain, along with six other men, came there and started picking the yield.
Both exchanged hot words following which Khadim pulled out his revolver and fired at Khalid, killing him on the spot. The accused escaped from the scene.
Noor Shah police have registered a case against Khadim without making any arrest so far.
SWINDLED: A truck loaded with cotton bales worth Rs0.8 million was driven away by five swindlers who left the driver unconscious at a roadside food outlet.
Reports said truck driver Nazim was having tea at a roadside hotel near Arifwala Chowk when five men came there and started chatting with him.
During the chat, the swindlers stealthily mixed some intoxicating substance in Nazim’s tea, leaving him unconscious.
The swindlers then drove away the cotton laden truck.
Ghala Mandi police have registered the case.
