SUKKUR, Oct 21: Sultan Shah, a bandit wanted in a number of cases and carrying Rs2million head money, surrendered before Sindh Home Minister Dr Zulfiqar Mirza in the DPO office here on Monday night.
According to DPO Sukkur Sharjeel Kharal, the home minister also asked other hardened criminals and wanted bandits with an assurance that the police would not register any fresh cases against them, and help them out according to the law.
According to him, the home minister also announced that no new cases would be registered against Sultan Shah. Home minister also promised to withdraw all fake cases against Sultan Shah and other criminals, who would surrender to police.
Not only this, but the government would also help them legally in actual cases, he added.
On this occasion, the DPO Sukkur said that Sultan Shah was wanted by the police in 47 cases of heinous crimes, including robbery, dacoity and kidnapping for ransom.
Replying to journalists questions, Zulfiqar Mirza said that “we have adopted many corrective measures to maintain law and order in the province, which have yielded positive results and law and order situation in Sindh has improved a lot.
He also urged upon the influential people of the area and police officers to use their influence and motivate the criminals to surrender and added that head money of Rs2 million regarding Sultan Shah would be distributed among the police.
SULTAN SHAH: In an exclusive interview with Dawn, Sultan Shah said that he belonged to an educated family of Sukkur and holding a degree of BA. Recalling his past, he said that he was a student union leader and became a tool in the hands of political parties and police punished him a lot for what he called, minor crimes and made him a big criminal.
With a gloomy smile on his face, Sultan Shah said that besides actual crimes committed by him, police also implicated him in those crimes which were never committed by him.
He went on to say that so far not a single crime was proved against him in the court of law.
He made it clear that he had surrendered voluntarily and no one forced him to do so and added that he would use his influence and asked other criminals to surrender.
He, however, was optimistic that the government would fulfil its promises, made to him regarding withdrawal of all fictitious cases. He also appealed to the government to provide jobs to educated youth and secure their future.
