BAHAWALPUR, Oct 18: Police foiled a sabotage bid and arrested one of the criminals when they were disjointing a rail track in the Zakheera area here on Friday.
Sadar police were informed that some people were disjointing part of the rail track of Sammasatta-Bahawalnagar section. The police reached the scene and arrested one of the criminals identified as Muhammad Taj. However, Taj’s two accomplices fled the scene. The police are interrogating Taj.
The rail track passes through a forest and the criminals were disjointing the track covered by the trees. However, the traffic on this route is usually thin.
CONFERENCE: A two-day international conference of paediatric surgeons of Saarc countries opened at the Quaid-e-Azam Medical College auditorium on Saturday.
The conference, being attended by more than 150 delegates, has been organised by the Association of Paediatric Surgeons of Pakistan in collaboration with the Federation of Associations of Paediatric Surgeons of Saarc countries.
The inaugural session was chaired by Prof Dr Abdul Hamid Chaudhry. In his speech at the inaugural session, Saarc paediatric surgeons association president Dr Devendra Kumar Gupta said paediatric diseases were almost common in Saarc countries and as such there was a need for concerted efforts to provide surgery to children of these countries.
Conference Organising Committee chairman Prof Dr Zubair Ahmed also spoke on the occasion.
