LAYYAH, Oct 15: Police are still looking for clues in their search for the perpetrators of the Bhakkar bomb blast even after the passage of a week.

A suicide bombing at the residence of Member of the National Assembly (MNA) Rasheed Akbar Niwani on Oct 6 left 25 people dead and 72 others injured.

MPA Saeed Akbar Niwani, also younger brother of the MNA, alleged then district police officer Ahmed Kamal had not provided adequate security at his residence. An FIR was also lodged against Mr Kamal and the government sent him on forced leave.

Police and law enforcers also arrested several people for interrogation and many of them have been released.

Seeking anonymity, a man recently released told Dawn that he was kept at a safe house of the Federal Interrogation Agency somewhere near Islamabad.

Law enforcers also picked up Muhammad Saleem, of Mauza Bharni Charagh, Allah Buksh, of Mauza Sayal, and Muhammad Ramzan, of Basti Somowali and of them Saleem was already detained and investigated by Rawalpindi police in connection with attack on the convey of former president Pervez Musharraf in 2003.

Muhammad Sharif, Zeshan and Masood Zafar have been picked up by law enforcing agencies from Layyah and their place of captivity has not been disclosed by any quarters.

Sargodha RPO Khan Baig said the Crime Investigation Department of police had been tasked with investigating the case which had yet to find any lead in the case.
