LAHORE, Oct 14: A mediocre card of six events comprising average runners has been chalked out for the midweek Lahore Gymkhana races to be held at the Racecourse on Wednesday.
The first two events will be contested over the sprinting distance of 900 metres while the remaining four will go over 800 metres. In all, 60 probables will be contesting in the event, the first race will commence at 2.00pm.The first race, the Kharian Plate, class VI, division II is the feature event in which eight acceptors are to line up for the top honours. Four, namely, Blitz, Love Minister, Bird Fly and Princess Amaan, look on chance on recent form and bloodline.
The three-year-old chestnut colt Blitz is the speedy one and he should have the better of the others.
A big field of 14-runners is to contest the supporting and second race, the Kharian Plate, class VI, division III and IV combined. Of them Bubbly, Mahima and Victory Sergeant attract attention on their track performances.
The filly Bubbly, who was beaten to second place in her last outing, should make amends and win the race this time over a shorter distance.
Silent Assassin, Red Baron and Muskan are the pick of the eight speedsters listed in the field for the third race, the Jhelum Plate, class VII, division I, to go over 800 metres. The first named is better on track performance but will be contesting after a long layoff, which can go against it.
King’s UK, Blank Cheque and Pukkar look good in the nine runners drawn for the fourth race, the Jhelum Plate, class VII, division IV. The distance of 800 metres suits them all very well and the race should provide a thrilling finish.
King’s UK was backed by connections the last time out but he failed to live up to expectations. He should put up a better show and win the race with a good lad up in the saddle.
Candidate, Leader’s Wing and Sohail come into reckoning in the fifth race. They should fight for the honours with the one receiving better support from the saddle.
There are 11 runners, barring last-minute withdrawals, for the sixth and last race, the Jhelum Plate, class VII, division II over 800 metres. Bobby Love, Farjan Prince and Pure Power, with one win each in the bag, will be on the trot to make it two in a row. All three have an equal chance on handicap and time. The best rider would be a deciding point.
