NAROWAL, Oct 14: Unidentified men threw a hand grenade in a cloth shop on Railway Road on Tuesday night that did not explode.

The attackers came on an auto rickshaw about 8:30pm when electricity was out and threw a hand grenade in the shop, where salesmen and some customers were present. Police and bomb disposal personnel reached the scene and defused the grenade.

Shop owner Baba Gulzar said some people phoned him a few days ago and demanded money. He said they threatened him with consequences if he failed to meet their demand. He said he did not succumb to the threat, adding that the same criminals could be behind this attack.

District Police Officer Tariq Rustam Chohan said the grenade was a locally made and was thrown in the shop to create panic.

Narowal Anjuman-e-Tajran condemned the incident and announced a complete shutter down strike in the city on Wednesday (today).
