ISLAMABAD, Oct 14: Dr Abdul Qadeer Khan’s counsel on Tuesday filed another petition with the Islamabad High Court saying the nuclear scientist along with his wife will appear before the court to witness the proceedings of his case on October 16, and, if needed, security arrangements should be made for him on the occasion.

Barrister Mohammad Iqbal Jafree filed the miscellaneous petition along with the already admitted review petition which maintained that the ministry of interior had flouted the decision of the court by keeping AQK under detention and not allowing him to meet his friends and relatives.

The lawyer told Dawn that Dr Khan himself had wanted to submit his reply regarding the matters concerned to him and the next hearing could either be held in the open court or in the chamber of the judge. He also informed the court that the ministry of interior had not submitted its reply in the case for the last six months. Therefore, a fine of Rs1.1 million should also be imposed on the ministry, he added.

In another case, the division bench of the IHC comprising Justice Sardar Mohammad Aslam and Justice Raja Saeed Akram issued show-cause notice to the investigating officer of the Margalla police after expressing dissatisfaction over the way of investigation in a kidnapping case.

The court was hearing the bail petition of Abdul Khalil, who is charged with kidnapping a citizen from G-8 and taking him to Peshawar. The Margalla police in collaboration with the Peshawar police recovered the abducted Nadeem from Peshawar and arrested Abdul Khalil and his two accomplices.

However, when the court asked the investigating officer, ASI Abdul Sattar, whether the local police had recorded the statement of Peshawar police as to where and in what condition they had arrested the accused, the IO showed his ignorance.
