KARACHI, Oct 12: Turf accountants had a field day as six outsiders returned with flying colours in a card of seven in the Gymkhana race meeting at the Karachi Racecourse on Sunday.
Three-year-old chestnut colt Sayeen Jee was the only exception and lived up to his top billing by landing The Twin Cup to make it two wins on the trot.
He posted an emphatic 10-length victory over mare Savabeel in a start to finish bid with jockey Mohammad Essa in the saddle. Colt Speed Of Arab occupied third place further seven lengths behind while mare Blind Date completed the board among seven runners.
He is owned by Shah Mardan Shah Pir Pagara and trained by Sher Mohammad.
The owner-rider combination completed a back-to-back double in the next race, which was also the feature event, when four-year-old bay filly Taiz Per registered an impressive nine lengths victory over favourite filly Blossom. Afroze Jehan and Bacaradi seized the next two places. The winning horse was saddled by Allah Judrio.
In a neck-and-neck race fifth race, four-year-old chestnut colt Back In Action with no form worth edged favourite filly Dilruba by short head to claim honours.
Play Boy was pushed to third place, also by short head, while Die-Na-Might finished half-a-length away to complete the frame among 14 runners.
Similarly, second best Novaho’s Glory, a three-year-old chestnut filly, denied fancied colt Whirl Wind to repeat a winning feat getting the better of him by four lengths.
Owned by Faisal Farooq, the filly was ridden home by ace rider Ghulam Shabbir II, who in an earlier race galloped long shot bay Invazor to a facile four-and-a-half lengths victory over favourite Hilal Tob.
Four-year-old bay colt Walayat who was on job surprised the punters by winning the opener with favourite Princess Zara occupying fourth slot.
The second race saw second best Princess Sparkle getting the better of mare Marista by two-and-a-half lengths. The latter should curse herself for the defeat as its rider Essa became eased while approaching the finishing post.
Owner Miss Zainab Ali and Iman Ali and trainer Mazhar also completed a double (Princess Sparkle and Invazor).
