Hall Road traders ‘succumb’ to threats

LAHORE, Oct 10: Shopkeepers of Hall Road with the ‘consent’ of the local police on Friday set hundreds of ‘porn’ CDs and DVDs ablaze, apparently after succumbing to extremists’ threats.

A shopkeeper claimed that the number of burnt CDs\DVDs was up to 50,000. He said it was done to give an impression that Hall Road shops had been purged of ‘objectionable’ stuff. The shopkeepers of city’s hub of electronics stores had been receiving threatening calls for the last few days that their shops would be bombed if they continued selling ‘objectionable’ stuff.

On the other hand, a police spokesman told Dawn that this had been done on the request of the police. Regarding security, he claimed that police personnel remained there throughout the day and they were also keeping an eye on suspicious elements. — Staff Reporter
