FAISALABAD, Oct 9: The Punjab government will form environment clubs in state-run schools and funds are being released for maintenance of public parks.

This was said by Lahore Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) director Dr Shagufta Shahjehan while addressing industrialists and businessmen at the Faisalabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FCCI) here on Thursday.

She said the government was particular about environmental issues and the rising problems of pollution.

“The government has been issuing funds to arrest environmental pollution and now different high schools in the province will soon see environment clubs.”

Dr Shagufta said staff of such schools would also be trained in environment-related issues.

She urged industrialists to come forward and extend financial assistance to the government for establishing solid waste disposal and water purification plants in different areas of the province.

Speaking on the occasion, FCCI vice-president Muzamal Sultan said pollution was a major problem of the Faisalabad city.

He assured the EPA director that entrepreneurs would assist the government for establishing various plants.

He said the government must ensure the establishment of green spots and plantation in industrial estates.
