TOBA TEK SINGH, Oct 7: After keeping in custody for eight days, law-enforcement agencies have released one of the four brothers caught for their alleged involvement in the Sept 20 Marriott Hotel blast and he reached his hometown on Tuesday morning.

On Sept 29, Imran Afzal and his three brothers, Hameed Afzal alias Billa, Majeed Afzal and Kamran Afzal, were captured from Chak 256-GB, Philour, and were taken to undisclosed locations.

During interrogation, Afzal said, he had no meeting with any of his brothers as they all were detained separately.

He also told reporters that he was not subjected to torture, however, he was repeatedly questioned whether he or any of his brothers had links with the leadership of banned outfit Harkat Jehad Islami during their stay in Dubai.

He said he was abandoned at Faisalabad Motorway Interchange at midnight between Monday and Tuesday, but prior to that he was given Rs500 in cash to reach his home. He expressed the hope that all his brothers would be released soon as they had no involvement in the blast. rejected: An additional district and sessions judge (Gojra) rejected on Tuesday pre-arrest bail pleas of five fertiliser dealers who were booked by the Gojra police for overcharging and selling adulterated products.

Tariq, Siddique, Saeed, Imran and Afzal were earlier granted bail before arrests till Tuesday.

CIVIL JUDGES: Mian Muhammad Afzal, a Punjab Bar Council member, on Tuesday demanded that Lahore High Court Chief Justice Syed Zahid Husain should arrange examination of the 100 civil judges who were recruited after bypassing the Punjab Public Service Commission.

The recruitments were made when Iftikhar Husain Chaudhry was the LHC chief justice.

INJURED: A head-on collision between two motorcycles at Gogera Branch Canal Bridge on Gojra-Moongi Road on Tuesday left one of the drivers dead.

The other suffered injuries and was admitted to the Allied Hospital.
