SIALKOT, Oct 6: Inflows in Chenab started improving on Monday after several weeks.
Official sources confirmed that water discharge in the river at Head Marala had risen to 15,564 cusecs from 9,000 cusecs a few days ago.
The reported cut in supplies by India during the last two months created acute water shortage in the river, forcing the Irrigation Department to close Marala Ravi Link Canal. As a result, standing paddy crop in Sialkot, Narowal and Gujranwala districts was hit badly. Water has still not been released into the canal.
Under the Indus Water Treaty, India is bound to release a minimum of 54,000 cusecs downstream into the Chenab.
KILLED: Two children were killed as the roof of their house collapsed in Talwara Mughlaan early on Monday morning.
Azmat Ali’s son Bilal (12) and daughter Yasmeen (15) were sleeping in a room along with other family members when the roof of their room caved in and killed both of them at the scene.
