MUZAFFARGARH, Oct 6: After the suicide blast in Bhakkar on Monday, MNAs, MPAs and other political figurers of this district have cancelled their public engagements, especially the Eid Millan parties.
Muzaffargarh district is sensitive too as dozens of people were killed in sectarian violence in late 90s.
Noor Rabbani Khar, a former provincial minister and father of sitting MNA Hina Rabbani Khar, told Dawn that big gatherings were often held at his residence. “After the Bhakkar blast, I have cancelled all Eid Millan parties and I will also limit my movement.”
Saying that he had his own personal security sufficient to counter any such untoward incident, he demanded that the government should enhance security for all public figures.
MNA Jamshed Dasti said that he had also cancelled all his public activities as a precaution. He said Bhakkar was neighbouring district to DI Khan and suicide bombers were coming from that district.
He also apprehended that Muzaffargarh could also become their target.MNA Mian Mohsin Qureshi said politics had become a matter of life and death. “Being a public figure, I have to meet people and attend public functions. If I go underground, it amounts to political death. Otherwise, terrorists are after our lives. So, the right thing is to fight and eliminate terrorism from the country.”
DCO Tariq Javed Malik said security had been enhanced in the district and security cover had been provided to all MNAs and MPAs. He said the administration had also advised all MPAs and MNAs to limit their movement or public appearances.
