SUKKUR, Oct 6: The newly-wed couple from Dera Allah Yar of Balochistan, Fida Hussain Mirali and Ms Haseena Mirali, who had been declared karo-kari and faced threat from their families after they left their houses and got married in court, were sent to Karachi under tight security on the orders of the Sukkur circuit bench of the Sindh High Court on Monday.

Fida Hussain, son of Ghous Bux Mirali, and Ms Haseena, daughter of Sikandar Ali Mirali, ran away on Sept 23 and got married in the civil court of Shikarpur the following day.

The reached Sukkur on Sept 26 and filed a petition through advocate Hadi Bux Bhat, stating that their families had declared them as karo-kari and wanted to kill them. They, therefore, needed protection because they feared threat to their lives, they said.

Sources in Dera Allah Yar said that following love-marriage of Fida Hussain and Ms Haseena, the girl’s relatives, including her father Sikandar Ali, brother Ali Mohammad Mirali, brother-in-law Akbar Mirali and son-in-law Wazir Ali Mirali raided Fida’s house and kidnapped his father Ghous Bux and mother Jam Zadi.

The sources said that the girl’s relatives had killed Ghous Bux while her wife managed to escape their captivity. Her whereabouts were not known, they said. Fida Hussain and Ms Haseena were produced before Justice Yasmeen Abbasi on Monday.

Ms Haseena said in her statement that she had been in love with Fida for the past four years and wanted to marry him, but her father desired to marry her with his nephew, forcing her to elope and get married in court.

Later, the couple was sent to Karachi amid tight security.
