JACOBABAD, Oct 4: A rally was organised by the Mazdoor Shehri Ittehad on Saturday against issuance of a cheque worth Rs30.576 million by the roads department Jacobabad to a labour leader.
The rally started from Quaid-i-Azam road and after marching through different roads, reached the press club.
The protesters were carrying banners, placards and raised slogans against the DCO and DO roads, Jacobabad. The protesters numbering around 200 also observed a token hunger strike for two hours. The rally was led by the president of Mazdoor Ittehad, Haji Ghulam Nabi, Shaban Majhoo, Abdul Karim, Roshan Mundrani and Ghulam Rasool Soomro.
The labour leaders said that wages of labour, lower staff and retired employees amounting to Rs30.576 million had been given to labour union leader Manzoor Areeher and the list of employees was not available in the office.
They said that the fake names of employees in roads department had been entered and fraudulent cheque was issued against Manzoor Areeher. They vowed to continue their protest till the cheque amount was deposited to the government account.
The labourers wearing black armbands, who observed token hunger strike, said that they had not celebrated Eid in protest. They appealed to Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah to take notice of the matter.
