MUZAFFARGARH, Oct 3: The Mukhtar Mai Women’s Welfare Organisation has stretched its welfare activities to Multan where it plans to open a women’s shelter home.

Naseem Akhtar, the secretary to Mukhtar Mai, told Dawn by telephone on Thursday that the shelter home would house the destitute and those women who had been rejected by their families.

She said the shelter home would also provide legal aid besides accommodation and necessary finances to the needy women.

The programme, which is being financed by the NED, an international donor organization, will also be expanded to Lahore and other big cities.

Ms Akhtar said the organization was already running a shelter home in Mirwala, Muzaffargarh. She said the shelter home would also hold workshops for journalists.
