SINGAPORE, Sept 27: Renault’s Fernando Alonso has set the fastest time in the final practice session ahead of the Singapore Grand Prix.

Alonso’s time of 1 minute, 44.506 seconds Saturday was the fastest over the three practice sessions in the lead-up to Sunday’s first ever Formula One night race.

Championship leader Lewis Hamilton of McLaren was second while his title rival Felipe Massa of Ferrari was third best, with qualifying to be held later Saturday.

Force India’s Giancarlo Fisichella had a spectacular accident, launching his car off a high curb into a concrete barrier, but was unhurt.—AP
