PESHAWAR, Sept 23: The city police have failed to find any clue to Afghan Ambassador-designate to Pakistan Abdul Khaliq Farahi, who was kidnapped by unidentified gunmen from Hayatabad on Monday.

Police authorities have formed an investigation team in this regard with Capital City Police Officer Dr Mohammad Suleman as its head. Other members of the team include Mian Ghulam Mohammad, SSP Operations Kashif Alam, SP Cantonment Circle Abdul Qadir, ASP and SHO Hayatabad.

A member of the investigation team said that strenuous efforts were under way to find any clue to the kidnapped diplomat. The Afghan envoy might have been shifted either to Afghanistan or kept somewhere in the tribal region, he added. He said that all exit and entry points had been cordoned off after the incident and vehicles were being searched out to get any information in this regard.

Meanwhile, another official of the Afghan Consulate, Noor Mohammad, on Tuesday morning registered a complaint with Tehkal police station that he was going to consulate in his official vehicle when two persons in a motor car bearing registration number GAN-2462 abused him, pointed a pistol at him and threatened him with dire consequences.

The Afghan official, the police officer said, also sought provision of proper security. Police said an inquiry was ordered into the case but in the meantime another applicant identified as Sharafat Ali Khalil came to the police station and lodged with them the same complaint. SP Security Sajid Khan, when contacted, said that all officials of various consulates had been provided property security at their offices and residences. They could take the guards with them in case of movement, he added.

A police spokesman said police had received applications from both the complainants and inquiry into the case had been ordered. He said it was not a terrorist act. Another official of the police station said both the applicants could be challaned to the court under Section 107.
