ISLAMABAD, Sept 22: Taking serious note of the ongoing loadshedding in Karachi, a Senate body on Monday urged the Karachi Electricity Supply Company to invest in upgradation of infrastructure and generation of more power as was promised by it during privatisation process.

The sub-committee of the Senate standing committee on water and power met under the chairmanship of Senator Dr Javed Laghari.

The KESC’s chief executive officer, Naveed Ismail, briefed the committee on problems confronting the utility, including supply of natural gas to its Korangi plant.

The members of the committee regretted that not a single unit of electricity has been added by KESC during the last three years, although demand had risen by 25 per cent.

The committee said that KESC must provide immediate relief to people by not resorting to loadshedding in Ramazan, particularly during Sehri and Iftar.

Senators Abdul Razak A. Thahim and Amin Dadabhoy also attended the meeting.
