SUKKUR, Sept 19: Sadu Narejo, a notorious bandit carrying head money of Rs3 million, was arrested along with his two brothers and two sons by the Sukkur police after an encounter in the kutcha area of Bagarji on Friday and recovered arms, claimed the District Police Officier (DPO) Sharjeel Kharal.

Police had also detained women folk and children of the family of Sadu Narejo and his brothers, but later released them on the strong protest of the area people, according to the sources in Bagarji. However police denied these reports.

The DPO told newsmen that the action was taken on a secret information that Sadu Narejo was hiding in kutcha area of Bagarji along with his four accomplices.

He said that a strong police contingent was sent to conduct raid in kutcha area and during the course of search operation Sadu Narejo along with his accomplices attacked police party, which was retaliated by the police. After a brief encounter, Mr Kharal claimed, police arrested Sadu Narejo, his two brothers Abdullah and Meher and two sons Asghar Ali and Akbar Ali and recovered from their possession three Kalashnikov rifles, seven magazines with 250 live rounds.

The DPO said that Sadu Narejo was wanted by the police in many cases of heinous crimes including, kidnapping for ransom in all districts of Sukkur region and added that 96 cases of different crimes were registered against him at different police stations of Sukkur region which include 33 cases of kidnapping for ransom, 12 cases of murders, and 28 cases of assault/attack on police force. He said that, Sadu Narejo was carrying head money Rs.3 million. A case under crime No 26/2008 u/s 324 and 353 PPC and 7 ATA has been registered at Bagarji police station.

The DPO, however, could not satisfy the journalists as to how such a dreaded bandit was arrested without any loss either to police party or members of Narejo gang.

It may be recalled that Sadu had taken over the command of his gang after the death of Nazru Narejo in an encounter with the police near Shikarpur a couple of years ago.
