SIALKOT, Sept 18: How much the education authorities accord priority to the English language can be gauged from the fact that there is only one teacher for the subject for 2,200 students at the Government Boys Degree College, Daska.
An official told newsmen on Thursday that six posts of English lecturers, two each of economics and Urdu and one each of biology, physics, chemistry, geography, computer sciences, history, commerce and Islamiyat had been lying vacant for long.
The government functionaries responsible for approving the appointments had been ignoring the calls of people that they should rid the degree college of prolonged problems, they said. The concerned people have urged Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif and Sialkot DCO Atta Muhammad Khan to ensure that the vacancies are filled at the earliest.
