TOBA TEK SINGH, Sept 18: The Kamalia Tehsil Municipal Administration staff on Thursday observed strike in protest against alleged manhandling of the TMO by PML-Q MNA Riaz Fatyana’s men.

Led by Tehsil Municipal Officer Rashid Ahmad Janjua, they, however, ended strike after six hours when the Kamalia city police registered a case against Fatyana, Tehsil Nazim Chaudhry Mahmoodul Hasan, Kamalia Market Committee administrator Chaudhry Zahoorul Haq and their two dozen accomplices on the charge of beating up the TMO and locking him up at his office for one and-a-half hour.

According to a police report registered under sections 148, 149, 186 and 506 of PPC, the complainant (TMO) was called by Fatyana to attend his political meeting on Wednesday at the TMA hall but he refused to turn up on the plea that it was a private meeting and not an official obligation.

At the behest of Fatyana and the tehsil nazim, the complainant said, about two dozen gangsters tortured him and locked him up at his office room. The police instituted a case but failed to make any arrest, with one official claiming that the FIR had been sealed.

Meanwhile, PML-N MPA from Kamalia Begum Nazia Raheel and Kamalia Tehsil Naib Nazim Siddique Piyara (of PPP) have condemned the incident and described it as “Fatyana group’s interference in the government affairs”.

On the other hand, the Fatyana group held a meeting to launch counter-protest over registration of a case by the city police, but no decision could be taken because Fatyana had left for Islamabad on Thursday morning.
