CHICHAWATNI, Sept 15: The engine of a goods train overshot the sand hump at the Daad Fatiana railway station near Chichawatni early on Monday, resulting in injuries to two staffers and smash-up of eight bogies.

The derailment suspended traffic on the main line.

The Kemari goods train from Lahore to Karachi was given the signal to approach Chichawatni platform 3, but the engine overshot the sand hump and derailed eight bogies. Local railway officials said the incident took place due to the negligence of driver and fireman who were dozing off. Both sustained injuries, they said.

Railway rescue teams have reached the spot and are working to clear the track. —APP
