DERA GHAZI KHAN, Sept 12: Despite protest demonstrations by the residents of the arid zone called Pachhad against three days long power breakdown, Multan Electric Power Company (Mepco) authorities have not taken any action to restore power supply to the area.

Power failure in the arid zone has left the people helpless who depend upon electric turbines for irrigation. They took out a number of protest demonstrations against the blackout, saying they were facing drought-like situation.

Mepco Superintendent Engineer Sharif Afridi said wires of the main line had been stolen and after the availability of new wire, power supply would be restored.

Choti police claimed that no such theft occurred in the area. Residents demanded the immediate restoration of power supply or they would cut power supply forcibly to other areas.
