LAHORE, Sept 11: A youth followed suit when his friend committed suicide after failure in marrying a girl he loved in Sanda on Thursday.

Jabran, 24, of Liaquat Park and Muhammad Azeem, 26, of Hakeemanwala Bazaar were friends and had promised they would live and die together.

Police say Azeem and Jabran were in love with two sisters of their locality. Azeem asked Jabran to persuade his beloved’s family for marriage.

When Jabran sent a proposal to the girl’s family a couple of days ago through another friend, her parents got infuriated and admonished him.

Later, the girl’s parents visited Jabran’s house and told his family about his action and the girl’s engagement.

When Jabran came to know about his beloved’s engagement, he took poisonous pills, fell unconscious and died on way to Mayo Hospital.

The news of Jabran’s death shocked Azeem. He visited Jabran’s house and took poison in the presence of his friend’s family.

He was taken to a nearby hospital where doctors treated him and discharged him.

Azeem again went to a nearby market and purchased acid from a shop. He went to his dead friend’s house, consumed the acid and died.

He, however, left the message that he be buried near his friend. Finally, both the friends were buried in two adjacent graves in a graveyard in Gulshan-i-Ravi.
