ISLAMABAD, May 7: Pakistan Muslim League (N) Secretary-General Saranjam Khan has said that as the army generals have not played any role in the creation of Pakistan, they can not be allowed to run the country.

In a statement, issued here on Tuesday in response to the wish that Gen Musharraf has expressed about giving a constitutional role to the army, the PML leader said: “Pakistan was a reward of the Almighty in result of the sacrifices of millions of Muslims under the leadership of the father of the nation, Quaid-i-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah.”

He remarked that regrettably, whenever “the feather-brained and one-track minded adventurous generals” had conquered the country by dint of their military might, they had inflicted irreparable losses on the country and demoralized the nation.

Mr Khan said the Musharraf government had strengthened the hands of centrifugal forces and had increased acrimony among the provinces over the water issue.

After an unprecedented defeat in the referendum, whatever breed of politicians Gen Musharraf was gathering under his umbrella would prove detrimental to the integrity of the country, he observed and said Gen Musharraf had also brought the country to a situation that might lead the country towards the 1971-like situation.
