PESHAWAR, Aug 27: The All Pakistan Contractors Association’s NWFP chapter has stopped work on development projects and announced not to obtain further contracts till the government accepted their demands.

Speaking at a news conference here on Wednesday, association’s provincial chief Ghulam Habib said contractors had stopped development works across the province and none of them would sign further contracts with the government before fulfilment of their demands.

Accompanied by other members of the association, he said their association had presented 21 demands to the government relating to field works and hurdles faced by contractors in obtaining and continuing ongoing government development projects.

After completion of projects, he said, the government should prepare PC-IV to ensure implementation of the prescribed contract agreement with contractors.

He said a tender should be approved or cancelled within 30 days of its announcement, adding that if documents of a contractor did not fulfil the requirements he should not be allowed to bid.

Mr Habib called upon the government to take action against officers impeding completion of development projects. —PPI
