PESHAWAR, Aug 22: In the wake of frequent attacks on security forces and sensitive installations in the NWFP and other parts of the country, the police in the provincial capital further beefed up security, specially in the city and cantonment areas, officials said.
Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Dr Mohammad Suleman had issued fresh directives to all the stationhouse officer and SDPOs to keep vigilance on movement of suspected people in their jurisdictions and take prompt action in case of any doubt about the miscreants. Police personnel have been deployed at all sensitive and public places in the city and cantonment areas and vehicles are being checked at the entry points in order to avert any untoward incident in the provincial metropolis.
Meanwhile, NWFP Speaker Kiramatullah Khan has also asked the police officials to ensure proper security in and around the MPAs’ hostel. A meeting of high-ranking officials was held at MPAs’ hostel with the speaker in the chair which was also attended by provincial ministers, MPAs, secretary administration, CCPO Peshawar, director Provincial Building Maintenance Cell and others. It discussed the prevailing law and order situation.
The meeting took some important decision, which included posting of an inspector level officer at the main gate of the MPAs’ hostel, installation of a walkthrough gate, installation of proper energy saver lights, car stopper at the gate and presence of special branch staff at the gate.
Keeping in view the MPAs’ demands, the speaker also directed for setting up of laundry and barber shops in the hostel. He said that unconcerned persons would not be allowed to stay at the hostel and visitors would be allowed only with due permission of the members of the provincial assembly.
