Mills attacked for printing ‘blasphemous’ fabric

FAISALABAD, Aug 13: Scores of labourers and area people of Khurrianwala ransacked a textile mills on Wednesday as what they said printing of a blasphemous fabric by its management.

People blocked Sheikhupura-Faisalabad Road and threw traffic out of gear for three hours. The enraged mob pelted the mills with stones and set ablaze computers and furniture.

Some eyewitnesses said factory guards also resorted to aerial firing to disperse the protesters as they forced their entry into the factory. They also clubbed the protesters which left nearly 14 people injured; two of them are stated to be serious.

A police contingent rushed to the spot and resorted to tear gas to disperse the mob. Area people said they would continue their protest till the registration of a case against the factory owners.

City Police Officer Aslam Tareen said: “We are looking into the matter for registration of a case.” —Staff Correspondent
