HYDERABAD, Aug 12: Shoros have agreed to pay Rs3.5 million as compensation to police constable Ali Hassan Solangi to settle out of court the case of attempted murder he is fighting against them, confirms chief of Solangi tribe, Khadim Hussain Solangi, on Tuesday.

He said that a sum of Rs1 million had been paid to Ali and the remaining Rs2.5 million would be paid soon. Bur, Ali’s nephew, Jawed Ali Solangi, denies reports of out-of-court settlement and insists nothing has been finalised yet.

“I am Sardar of Solangi tribe. Why will I make a wrong statement that the issue has not been solved? Shoros have themselves approached Ali Hassan and paid him Rs1 million on the day they called on him,” he said.

He said that the remaining amount would be paid soon after the out-of-court settlement of the criminal case pending against the Shoros and the other co-accused had been effected.

Jawed claimed that efforts were still going on to settle the issue amicably and Tando Allahyar Taluka Nazim Khair Mohammad Khokhar, a union council nazim Badar Memon and chief of Solangi tribe Khadim Hussain Solangi were involved in negotiations. Shoros were not available for comments.

“They (Shoros) have told us that they are not involved in the torture and they are ready to prove it through their witnesses who would testify that Jam Khan Shoro, son of UC nazim Deedar Shoro (both prime accused in the case) was staying with them in Islamabad,” he said.

He said that his family did not agree to compensation money. “They initially offered Rs500,000 and then increased the amount to Rs1 million,” he said.

“We are meeting our expenses by selling livestock and borrowing money from friends. Even otherwise, there are three million Solangis and if they start contributing one rupee each we will be able to collect Rs3 million. So right now we are not concerned about any monetary compensation,” he stressed.

Badar Memon confirmed that Shoros had made the offer to help Ali meet expenses for medical treatment. Khair Mohammad Khokhar who was leading rapprochement efforts would pass the verdict over the dispute as he had heard the two sides. He was out of the city at the moment, he said.

Ali Hassan was kidnapped on March 24 from the limits of Hatri police station and was taken to Deh Shah Bukahri where he was subjected to inhuman brutality.

His hands were chopped off at the writ joints. Acid was thrown on his face, he was given repeated blows of axe, causing multiple fractures in his legs and was fired upon.
