SUKKUR, Aug 12: Four villages and standing crops of cotton and paddy were inundated by the rain water, flowing from mountainous region of Shadi Shaheed and Arore, in Salehpat near Sukkur on Tuesday afternoon, while dozens of goats and many straw huts were washed away by the strong current of water.

According to the reports, torrential rain coupled with strong winds hit Salehpat and its allied area this afternoon, due to which four villages, including Hayat Shambhani, Haji Khan Shambhani, Shaban Khan Chakrani and Darhoon Khan Bhambhro were inundated, flowing from the mountain region of Shadi Shaheed and Arore.

Besides this, standing crops of cotton and paddy spread over hundreds of acres were also flushed out, causing heavy losses to the growers.

The affected growers told the local newsmen that the villagers could only save their lives while their entire household items, stocks of grain and goats were washed away with the gushing water. They further said that many straw huts also vanished. However, no loss of life was reported. They said that despite timely information to all the concerned quarters, no one turned up for their rescue and the villagers were shifting to safer places on self-help basis.

Meanwhile, a low flood entered Guddu barrage on Tuesday evening, where upstream was recorded 278,000 cusec and downstream remained 250,000 cusec and this flash flood is expected to reach Sukkur barrage within the next 24 hours.

According to the sources, today evening’s upstream at Sukkur barrage was 220,000 cusec while downstream was 170,000 cusec, while at Kotri barrage upstream was 113,000 cusec and downstream was 84,000 cusec.
