KARACHI, Aug 10: Khan Research Laboratories (KRL) drew 1-1 with National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) and Karachi Port Trust (KPT) beat Punjab Medical College (PMC) 2-0 in the two Pakistan Premier Football League (PPFL) matches played simultaneously on different venues on Sunday evening.
The bankers would have won the first match, played at the Korangi Baloch Stadium, had it not been for KRL’s skipper and striker Mohammad Essa who managed to score in the extra injury time at the end of the match.
After seeing two equally matched teams fight it out in a barren first half with several missed chances, NBP’s goal came in the second half when a pure team effort brought success in the 54th minute.
A pass from NBP’s skipper Abdul went to striker Mohammad Ashfaq whose shot into the goal might have missed its target had it not been for midfielder Misbah-ul-Hasan, present at the right position near the goal, diving to tilt it into the right direction to land inside the goal.
The other match between KPT and PMC, at the CDGK stadium, also saw some real action after a goalless first half.
KPT’s first goal came in the 53rd minute off a pass from striker Shahid Saleem, converted by winger Abdul Rehman, while the second one was converted by Shahid off a pass from midfielder Zahid Ahmed in the 83rd minute.
