Eight terror suspects arrested

LAHORE, Aug 8: Police claimed on Friday to have arrested eight suspected terrorists involved in last year’s Sargodha Police Lines and PAF bus attacks.

Capital City Police Officer Pervaiz Rathore told a news conference here that a police team, headed by DIG (Investigation) Mushtaq Sukhera and aided by an intelligence agency, arrested eight members of a banned outfit involved in the terrorist attacks. The suspects have been identified as Muhammad Mohsin alias Amir Hamza, Dilshad Ali, Saifullah, Babar Usman, Nasrullah, Zahid Iqbal, Muhammad Usman and Muhammad Shahid.

Explosives, 10 grenades, two rocket launchers, two kalashnikovs and other weapons were recovered from them.

Rathore said the accused were planning more attacks and their arrest would help break the terror network.

Separately, Punjab Police Inspector General Shaukat Javed said special training courses were being organised to tackle terrorism and other crimes.

Speaking at the passing out parade of the 36th lower class course at the Police Training School, Chuhng, Javed said professional training to police officials was part of police reforms. He said that quality training could be instrumental in improving discipline, technical expertise and inculcating human values in police officials. He said that new training modules had been evolved to attain training standards. He said police officials were being trained in crisis management.
