Two die, eight hurt in roof collapse incidents
LAHORE, Aug 5: At least three roof-collapse incidents, which took place in different parts of the city on Tuesday, left two people dead and eight injured, Rescue 1122 and Edhi officials said.
A young woman and her relative died, and three others sustained injuries when roof of a dilapidated house collapsed owing to torrential downpour in Salamatpura, Baghbanpura.
The victims were identified as Abida (23), wife of Mohammad Shafique, and a guest, Anwar (22), while the injured are Ghulam Rasool, Shabir and Sabar.
The rescuers said the victims were sleeping when the roof caved in.
The locals and rescuers recovered the victims from under the debris and shifted them to the hospital where Abida and Anwar were pronounced dead.
In the second incident, roof of a hotel caved in near Umer Chowk in Green Town owing to the downpour.
The Rescue 1122 officials shifted the injured -- Muhammad Ami (35), Abdul Salam (16) and Lal Din (40) -- to the Jinnah Hospital.
In another incident, roof of a house collapsed when a gas cylinder exploded in its kitchen at Jamilabad, Singhpura.
As a result, Naheed (27), wife of one Naeem and her two-year-old son got trapped under the debris and were recovered by the Rescue 1122 officials who shifted them to the hospital.
FIRE: Three fire incidents took place in different parts of the city on Tuesday.
According to Rescue 1122 officials, the cause of fire was stated to be short-circuiting in all three incidents.
In the first incident, fire erupted in a house in F-1 Block, Model Town, which reduced valuables worth Rs100,000 to ashes.
Another fire broke out in a bank at Chowk Dalgiran at around 4am where Rescue 1122 responded timely and extinguished it.
According to the bank manager, the estimated loss was up to Rs100,000.
In the third incident, fire erupted in the house of one Atta Muhammad at Ali Raza Abad, Raiwind Road. According to the owner, valuables worth Rs250,000 were gutted in the fire.
