LAHORE, July 31: The confirmation of a polio case in Nankana Sahib means that the province cannot be declared the disease-free in next three years.

Punjab Health Director General Aslam Chaudhry has confirmed the prevalence of virus in three-year-old Asif, of Nankana Sahib.

According to the World Health Organisation (WHO) standards, a country is declared a polio-free state three years after non-emergence of a case. It says if a single case of polio is reported in any part of a country it indicates the outbreak of the disease.

The health department will launch a three-day anti-polio campaign in Nankana Sahib, Sheikhupura, Kasur and Okara from Aug 4 and in the remaining districts of the province on Aug11-13.
