KHAIRPUR, July 31: Sindh Minister for Zakat and Ushr Sajid Ali Jokhio has said that to control misappropriations of Baitul Maal funds two Ameens will be appointed on honorary basis and the funds would be distributed through the provincial government so that the process could be made more transparent.
He was speaking to the Zakat officers at district Zakat committee office here on Thursday.
He said during previous regime Zakat funds were distributed among influential people instead of poor and millions of rupees of Zakat funds lapsed every year due to non-disbursement.
He said millions of rupees of Zakat funds which had been previously lapsed saved this year which would be distributed among deserving people at open katchehries.
He appreciated that a mass wedding ceremony would be held in August arranged by the district Zakat and Ushr committee in Khairpur and said that it would be first ceremony of its kind in upper Sindh and Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah would attend the ceremony.
He directed officials of district Zakat and Ushr committee for holding such ceremonies and added that district Zakat and Ushr committee would extend financial support up to Rs100,000 and Rs150,000 to unemployed youths who want to start their own business.
