SHEIKHUPURA, July 28: Seven people were killed and three others injured, three of them critically, in an exchange of fire at Makki 460 village over a water dispute on Monday.Riasat Ali and Muhammad Iqbal, two land lords of the Makki 460, had an old enmity.
On Monday, both groups were talking to resolve the irrigation water dispute and during the course, both parties went berserk and started firing at each other.
From the Riasat side, Nasir Mehmood, Abdul Waheed, Mohammad Imran and Riasat himself died. The Iqbal group’s causalities were Abdul Hamid, Mansha and Muhammad Ali.
Muhammad Ali and Mansha died at Mayo Hospital in Lahore.
Three people were being treated at the District Headquarters Hospital. The firing panicked the area. Police cordoned off the area and started patrolling in the streets of the village. All routes leading to Makki 460 were blocked by the police.
Police made announcements on mosque load speakers remain calm.
ROAD ACCIDENT: In a road accident, Shaukat Butt, of Shadbagh, died and 10 others were injured when two cars and a van collided with each other near Kala Shah Kaku on GT Road. Shaukat Butt and his family were going to Gujranwala from Lahore.
Reaching near Kala Shah Kaku, his driver Asif while overtaking another car and a van lost control and the car collided with other vehicles. Shaukat died instantly and Asif Nazir, Ayesha, Mumtaz Ahmad and others were injured. They were shifted to Mayo Hospital in Lahore.
