PROTEST: Family members have protested against the killing of Umer Nawaz by the firing of an inspector of Azizabad police station, Karachi, a few days back.

A labourer, Zulfiqar, a resident of Chak-11/WB, told this correspondent that his son Umer Nawaz was employed at an Azizabad marriage hall.

On the night of July 19, Umer was on his way home after attending a Mehfil-i-Naat, when a police inspector opened fire on him, killing him on the spot, Zulfiqar said.

Later, the police could not find any criminal record against Umer and registered a fake FIR and described the incident as an encounter.

Zulfiqar said if the government did not provide justice to him he and his family members would commit suicide.

He said his son was innocent and did not have any criminal record.

When contacted Karachi area DPO Allauddin Abbasi said if the inspector was found guilty, he would take action according to the law.

Earlier, Umer’s funeral was held at his native town Chak-11/WB and he was laid to rest.
