FAISALABAD, July 17: The Water and Sanitation Agency (Wasa) is being restructured and two posts of directors have been abolished in the process, Wasa Managing Director Dr Arshad Mehmood said here on Thursday.
Talking to office bearers of the Young Entrepreneurs’ Organisation, Mehmood said Wasa’s mechanical department was being separated from it to improve its functioning.
He said the department would be responsible for maintenance of the machinery alone.
He said Wasa was giving out Rs220 million from its Rs400 million revenue under the heads of salaries, electricity bills and fuel bills. He said Wasa was unable to save money for maintenance of its system.
He said efforts were being made to improve revenue recovery. He said sanitation facilities were insufficient and pumping machinery was outdated.
He said complaints against Wasa were on the rise because of its inefficiency.
