LAHORE, July 16: Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Pervez Rathore has underlined the need for collective efforts to meet traffic challenges and strict adherence to traffic rules.

Wardens should utilise their energies to regulate traffic, Mr Rathore said at a meeting held to review the traffic system in the provincial metropolis on Wednesday.

The CCPO said the mounting surge in population and expansion in the city had affected the traffic system. He said city traffic officers and more than 3,400 wardens should evolve a strategy to meet the challenges and perform their duty with dedication and commitment to meet the expectations of the people.

He directed wardens to ensure smooth flow of traffic on all roads and continue patrolling in their sectors besides launching an awareness campaign for masses about traffic rules. He urged them to guide people at traffic signals regarding observance of traffic rules and lane.

Mr Rathore directed the officers to take effective measures for the prevention of accidents caused by slow moving traffic in the suburbs of the city and ensure fixation of reflectors as well as its movement at extreme left side of the roads.

He said a booth for the issuance of driving licenses would soon be set up in the Saddar division. He warned the traffic officials to remain courteous and polite to people or they would be taken to task.

Later, he awarded cash to four wardens for their better performance.
